Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) in partnership with the Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA) and with funding from the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) through HFH
Canada is implementing a three year project which is aimed at improving the living conditions of persons with Disabilities
in Salima district by constructing disability friendly houses and
offering various trainings to the beneficiaries. The project will construct 66 houses by the of three years.
On 7 December, 2017 HFHM and MACOHA officially handed over the
first 22 disability friendly houses to the beneficiary families. The event took place in Chimombo Village,
T/A Kalonga in Salima district. Over 100 community members came to witness the amazing work
done by HFHM and MACOHA in their community. The function was also graced by representatives from FEDOMA, The Ministry of
Gender Children, Disability and Social Welfare and Salima District Council and the media . Traditional Authority Kalonga, who also attended the function emphasized that he will be on the forefront to protect the beneficiaries from property grabbing and discrimination.
